01. Lagos Marina
Departure from Lagos marina heading west.
02. Ponta da Piedade (Mercy Point)
The Huffington Post called it the most beautiful beach in the world and who are we to question? It’s not so much a beach, but a rocky cliff that brings together small sandy coves and incredible caves. The view from the lighthouse at the top is breathtaking, and you can take a photo of this unique place as we approach it by boat. At sea level, you enter this labyrinth of capricious rock formations, chiselled stone arches, caves and sea caves that the locals call General de Gaulle, Cathedral, Chimney or Cave of Love.
03. Rocha Negra (Black Rock)
Most of the rock formations in the Algarve are sandstone and have a golden glow. The black rock stands out clearly as a dark granite volcanic cliff at the eastern end of Praia da Luz.
04. Batelão do Burgau (Burgau Barge)
The Algarve coast has had its share of marine wrecks over the centuries and some remains are still there. A small barge of unknown origin, probably belonging to the old quarry at Ponta de Almádena, sank during a storm in the 80’s, in front of Burgau, and now it is a privileged diving site. The shallow dive, 20 to 30 feet, is something even beginners can do. The hull is clean and the clear water allows for great visibility. The Batelão do Burgau is now a refuge for young marine animals.
05. Praia dos Rebolos (Rebolos Beach)
Continuing west we enter Costa Vicentina. Burgau is an old fishing village where you can still find small boats and local fishermen repairing fishing nets in the sandy cove. The beach that practically disappears during high tide is also famous for its dinosaur footprints, which date back to the Early Cretaceous. These marks on the cliffs prove that both herbivores and carnivores roamed this flood-prone area of the Algarve.
06. Praia das Furnas (Furnas Beach)
The natural beauty is stunning and almost undisturbed here. Praia das Furnas is a place to relax for those who appreciate privacy. You’ll find the best of both worlds here, cliffs, rock formations and even caves, but also a wide sandy beach, shade and lots of sunlight. Trust us, there are still practically deserted beaches in the Algarve.
07. Praia do Barranco Grotto
Before returning to the Lagos Marina, we will visit the magnificent ravine cave.
After this description we believe you can’t wait to get on board, so why wait?
